The Holiday Season officially begins in Detroit this Friday at 7:30 p.m. as we Light Up the Season with the 2011 Detroit Tree Lighting Ceremony at Campus Martius Park.
WXYZ-TV and 7 Action News will present full coverage as Detroit decks the halls and begins dreaming of a white Christmas by turning on the lights on the 60-foot Norway Spruce so it will act as a beacon for Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Jolly Old St. Nicholas.
The tree, which comes from a Michigan 4-H Conference Center near Cadillac, has been in place since November 2. Since then it has been wrapped by three miles of lights and adorned with ornaments like jingle bells. The display is sure to show why it's the most wonderful time of the year.
They will all be showcased this Friday when Winter Magic-Detroit kicks off with live entertainment, including music and figure skating shows. So we're sure to be rockin' around the Christmas tree.
There will also be a Family Fun Tent, photos with Santa and carriage rides. So it won't be a silent night as we bring joy to the world.
So make sure you don't have a blue Christmas, because bells will be ringing all the way up to Christmas Day as we say "Let it Snow! Let It Snow! Let it Snow!"
We also want you to participate in our special tree lighting Tweetup where members of the #Backchannel and #Earlyrisers will be getting together.
You'll be able to watch all of the festivities this Friday at 7:30 p.m. on WXYZ-TV.Read more: http://www.wxyz.com/dpp/about_us/as_seen_on/light-up-the-season-with-wxyz-at-the-2011-detroit-tree-lighting-ceremony-friday#ixzz1dyNc8KO4
