online payment

Feedback Problem for Schooner Cove

tried twice this morning to pay rent online. All information was correct on screen and when I hit the submit button it went to a screen over saying please wait while your payment is processed. It hung in this screen for over 7 minutes. I refreshed the page and tried again with same result. Not sure if payment has been processed or not. Can you advise if payment was processed? This is why it would be really nice to have rent balance posted before the last day of the month. I work for McKinley and am on the road and do not usually see Ista bill until after rent is due. The online payment is a...

Good Morning Rhassan!

Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. Typically, we as an office will have a digital copy of your ISTA (water/trash/sewage bill) by the third week of the month. Please never hesitate to give us a call, we are always more than happy to look that up for you. I will take a look at your ledger and see if your rent payment was processed.

Again, thank you so much for your feedback and we will do our best to work out these kinks. Have a wonderful day and talk to you soon!

Mr. Berriz,

Thank you for this forum and for allowing residents to get involved. This is really great. I am a longtime resident of Schooner Cove. I am sad to say that I will NOT be renewing my lease this year. When I first moved to Schooner Cove it was like a "resort" community. It was very clean, the buildings were in great repair, and residents felt safe. We enjoyed one anothers company and it was great to walk throughout the community in the evening. Over a period of years that has ended. It is no longer a clean or safe place to live. The grounds here are horrible, the buildings are in terrible shape (unless you live close to the clubhouse). The buildings are literally falling apart. It seems like McKinley just stopped caring about Schooner Cove. People can no longer walk down by the lake. On a daily basis there are young men from the neighboring complex smoking marijuana down by the lake. Since I have lived here we have had people murdered in the parking lot and most recently a young lady was raped at night near a dumpster. It is sad to see what has happened here.

As a resident who cares about their community I have seen numerous managers come and go here. I have tried to address my concerns with managers when it has been appropriate and the managers acknowlege the problems but still the same problems exist. When the weather is warm you can walk through the complex and smell a strong odor of marijuana. This is not a place we want to raise our children. Our building alone has a strong odor of marijuana on a daily basis. Several of us have asked for help from the newest manager and we get nothing. He tells us he is here to "clean up the place" which is what he "specializes" in. And when we bravely notify him of the apartments that have a strong odor of drugs coming from them, nothing changes. Abandoned vehicles sit for months and months throughout this complex with bright orange stickers on them. We look out our kitchen windows and watch what appear to be drug deals taking place every day. At night we listen to gunshots outside and then find empty bullets/rounds in the parking lot. We call the Washtenaw County Sheriff and sometimes they come and sometimes they never show up. They are rude when we call, so we have stopped calling. A deputy told me the reputation of Schooner Cove is terrible but that the police do not have enough resources to help residents.

I would love to be able to write a glowing endorsement of this complex. I am not typically a negative person and hate to have to write what I have written to you. At what point will McKinley begin to care about Schooner Cove and its residents? We used to have a neighborhood watch group here and that just seemed to end. At what point will McKinley care more about the safety of the residents here then just renting apartments? The attitude at the clubhouse is horrible and the staff there is no longer approachable. I believe it will take a corporate approach to turn this property around, not just hiring a manager who "specializes" in turning properties around, making promises that are not kept. There are still a few residents here who care. I would ask you as the CEO to get personally involved and ask your company to begin caring. We should not HAVE to move because we fear for our personal safety in one of your complexes. I have a few short months left here and hope I see changes taking place that might change my mind.

Thank you for listening,
Scott

Scott, thank you very much for providing your feedback. I apologize that you have experienced these issues. Please email me your contact information at mzimmerman@mckinley.com so that I may contact you to personally.

Tonight, I am having Loss Prevention walk the buildings as well as check all the vehicles that have tow notices that are old and tow cars. In addition, I am meeting with my LPS supervisor this morning to discuss your feedback and put into place a plan of action. We will also meet with the Sherriff's Dept this week to partner with them in this effort.

I will meet with the on-site team on Monday to discuss these issues as well. We will be walking each building on Monday to determine the maintenance needs and we will address them. Thank you again for providing this feedback and giving us the opportunity to address the issues.

Sincerely
Melanie Zimmerman
