Dear Aspen Chase Residents,
We wanted to take this opportunity to share some information with you about an exciting program we’re working on in partnership with Girls on the Run! Girls on the Run is a program designed for girls between the ages of 8 & 13, which focuses on promoting empowerment and self-esteem through achievement. The program is designed to help girls to make positive choices, avoid negative behaviors and become leaders in our community. At the end of the program, the girls also participate in a 5K run!
You may already be familiar with Girls on the Run as it’s currently offered in many areas as an after-school program in the Spring and Fall. To increase awareness and exposure to girls who may want to become part of the program, we’re pleased to announce that McKinley will be hosting a local team of girls out of our Glencoe Hills community, with meetings that will be held in the leasing office.
Each Girls on the Run team which consists of 8-18 girls, requires two volunteer coaches. The more coaches we have, the more girls we can serve! You don't have to be a runner to be a coach. As a coach, you simply need to be passionate about the mission of Girls on the Run, committed to working with a group of girls twice a week for ten weeks between March 9th and May 22nd, and bring positive energy to every practice.
Volunteer coaches are required to attend a half day training session in late February or early March 2020. As mentioned, the season begins the week of March 9th and runs through May 22nd. The culminating Girls on the Run 5K event is scheduled to be held on May 16, 2020. The Girls on the Run program provides all coaches with the required training, curriculum, supplies and support they need to make an impact in the lives of young girls throughout our community. To learn more about becoming a coach, please review the attached flyer.
The deadline to register to become a coach is January 6th, 2020. Program registration opens January 2020. Financial assistance is available to families in need. Thank you in advance for your assistance in helping make this program a success for young girls throughout the community!
